Euthanasia – To die for the sake of ending suffereing
How are we suppose to look at euthanasia? In the views of people not supporting it, it is suicide and murder. In the views of people supporting it, it is the ending of somebody’s suffering. How are we suppose to judge euthanasia. Every circumstances have its own stands.
Firstly, euthanasia can benefit most terminally-illed patients. Take patients fighting terminal cancer. The symptoms of terminal cancer is painful, and everyday they survived, they have to go through another painful day. Although it seems like we are not suppose to take away people chance to survive, maybe it could be better if the patient were to stop suffering. Yes, it sound very inhumane, but have you ever wondered, if you are the one suffering and knowing you wouldn’t live any longer, will you want euthanasia, or to die painfully?
To add on, very sick patients usually chalk up expensive hospital bills. Who are those to pay the expensive bills? It is the surviving healthy relatives who will pay the burden to keep the terminally-illed alive. It sounds very infilial, however given some families’ financial status, the bills are just another burden to them. To sell everything you have, just to keep a dying alive for another day. Is it worth it, to have both sick and healthy to suffer together through the dark times? Some people feels that it is worth it, but to those who have problems to get bread and butter on their table, euthanasia is a good choice. Given that, the patient agrees to it.
However, euthanasia is not a very good choice sometimes. Usually, old patients who are diagnosed with some illness that are not very serious yet needs treatment, would request euthanasia from the doctors. This is because most of them have no family supports and feels that it is a waste of money to seek treatment, since they are already old and sick. At this point of time, i will feel that euthanasia is not the correct choice. Not only it seems like you are giving up hopes of life, you are also indirectly asking for suicide from the doctors. Getting treatment and continue living should be the correct choice, as many people are oout there hoping to livve through another day, and here you have a choice to live, yet giving it up.
In conclusion, I do support euthanasia under some circumstances. I still feels that everyone have the rights to live, but if life is painful and hard, and you know that you does not have much time to live, you may chose euthanasia. Euthanasia can be a form of giving up hope or a release from suffering, and i guess that there is no right or wrong in it. Until the day there is a cure for every disease, there will still be euthanasia, and the final decision should always lies with the patient.
*can anyone gimme a score on this 😛 *
