If there is anyone who is thinking of volunteering for CARE’s Camp Synergy, you should totally go for it.
After almost 2 years since my second camp, I went for my third one. This time I jio-ed Amelia and Pearlyn but Pearlyn fell sick 🙁
Every camp is a new learning experience. This is my first mixed gender school camp and after not attending for 2 years I guess I’m as good as a rookie. From there I learnt how to interact with secondary school students once again.
I guess as I aged, my stamina really decrease. But the good thing is I’m more used to having lack of sleep. I didn’t expect myself to get tired just from running a few places. What happened to me o.o
I’m quite pleased with this camp. Although I could have done more. Every time I leave camp wondering how would it be like if I did a little more for these students. But I have to tell myself, there is a limit on how much I can do for them. And since I’m not a youth worker, the amount of things I can do for them is just during the duration of camp.
It is difficult to pretend that those 3 days are nothing after having a bond with the students but I guess I just gotta deal with it, as always.
Although it is super tiring, but the thing that keeps me wanting to go again the on the final day, when the students appreciate you right before they leave. That is when you see the impact you have made. That is when you really feel useful.
