I’ve finished 10 seasons of Grey’s Anatomy and halfway through the 11th. And I am very convinced that Meredith Grey is the worst doctor in the whole series.
She’s the main character but if she is a real doctor, she’s probably a screwed up one.
In this one particular episode when Derek came back and Meredith thinks that he is cheating on her, she killed a patient. And this is just one of the unprofessional things she had done throughout the series.
First she suggested a treatment plan without discussing with Alex, who is this patient’s primary doctor. And the ‘benefits’ of the surgery is very appealing to a teenage boy who is stuck in a hospital for a long time. But it is risky.
Maybe she was overconfident because she had no bad outcome surgery since Derek left for DC. But doctors are not gods and she don’t even know the patient’s history well.
And she failed.
And this is probably not the worst.
Her worst mistake in the entire series is when she messed with the Alzheimer’s trial. It just made her so unprofessional and that one mistake makes me feel like she doesn’t deserve to be a doctor.
Nobody messes with a clinical trial. Nobody messes with a randomised clinical trial. You don’t play around with other people’s research work just like that. First, she was super upset that Adele did not qualify for the trial because of one point and pressured Derek by saying things like ‘It’s just one point’. She clearly do not respect science and such doctors are horrible.
Second, she seems to not understand that a clinical trial is not a cure. It is a maybe-cure. Yet she jeopardises her career, the trial and the hospital to tamper with the trial just for one patient. What about the other patients who received placebo? She is too emotionally involved.
Third, when she was caught by Alex and Alex accidentally told Owen, she made a big deal as though she wasn’t wrong and that Alex is the guilty one. No, Alex is not wrong at all. She tampered with the trial and that is what’s wrong. She is at fault but she made people all around her feel guilty for her mistake. She made Derek lost his clinical trial, and made Richard took the fall for her. Bailey had every right to be angry at her, a then-resident who screwed up so many people’s career because of her ‘if I want it I must have it’ attitude.
She’s horrible. If she is a real doctor she would have been fired and never allowed to practice ever again.
Then there was the time after she had Bailey, Christina was way ahead of her and she felt that she was losing out. She got jealous and kick up a fuss.
Well, what does she expect? Christina dedicated her life to her career, and that alone is enough to allow Christina be more successful than her. Christina had the cool surgery, a research project while she had nothing.
So her plan… Start her ‘own’ research project too. Except that it isn’t her idea but more of her dead mom’s idea. Oh, and that research failed (so far).
She wanted more time for the project and Derek took a step back in his career to allow her to work on her research, except that the President wanted him. Meredith started whining and getting angry over it. Hey, you are printing non-working prototype but Derek could work with the president. The last thing she should do is to be jealous of him and stop him from going. Which she did. Because she selfishly wanted to stay in Seattle as though nowhere else in the world is good enough for her.
He’s very dreamy but he is not the sun.
Meredith is not the sun either. Sorry Christina.
She seems to be an obstacle to Derek whenever he tries to do a research. Every time when he is finally getting some results for his research work Meredith would just come in, whines and tries to ruin everything.
I’m pretty sure there are more but I cannot remember for now. There are so many website with those ‘top 10 doctors in Grey’s Anatomy’ and Meredith will always rank so high up there but she just isn’t that good. People overlook her mistake because she is the main character and because she had a sad childhood.
But Alex had a sad childhood too. Izzie had a sad childhood too. Talking about good, Alex is a really good doctor. He missed his first round for board exam, which means he score 0 for 33% of the exam and have to answer everything correctly for the next two rounds to pass. And he passed. And was offered a job at John Hopkins because of it.
And when his fellowship was ending another doctor saw his talent and wanted him for private practice. He is the good one. Not the woman who screws with research work and when caught, starts blaming everyone except her.
