Last minute sign up for Run for Parkinson this year. I saw the email from NYC and they were promoting the event, so I went to take a look. It wasn’t expensive and have a 2km ‘run’ so I decided to jio the ex Med Techz. Via, her sister and Pearl went with me, which I’m super grateful because
- I haven’t done any community service this summer even though I initially wanted to. Technically this isn’t volunteering but it is for a good cause.
- Group sign up got discount
And being me, I procrastinated for the sign up. Finally got the motivation to sign up but realised the dateline was a day ago?! Luckily, they extended the dateline, so I was still able to sign up.
Woke up late because I slept late. I freaking woke up at 7:30am when I told them to meet at Punggol at 7:40am. I rushed to wash up and did a fast make up (lol vain) before running out. Made it to Punggol at 8am which is the time the event starts. Perks of staying at Hougang! But when I reached Safra Punggol, that’s when the real problem starts.
Because I was late, the 3 of them just went there first without me. And even though the direction in the email is very clear, I still managed to get lost. The email said to turn left after walking through Safra. But my stupid brain decides to think that à is left. I was extremely confused because I remembered very clearly the email said turn left but there was a sign pointing ß (which I thought was right).
Ended up missing the guest of honour opening speech but bleh, not the most exciting thing anyway.
The 2km walk starts at about 8:40am after the 10km and 6km people had ran. At first, we were in the middle of the line at the starting point, but by 500m or so, everyone disappeared, and we were all the way at the back. We totally gave up being fast and even had the time to take photos for some aunties who are also in the walk. Then about halfway through, there was a water point, and the volunteers told me that there are 2 more water points, which shock the shit out of us. The 2 other water points were for the 6km and 10km runners actually.
Some 10km or 6km runners even overtook us while we were on our way back.
Asshole via decide to jump around on the bridge back and it shook. And scared the shit out of me. Went back to collect our goody bag. Actually, why do they only give us the goody bag after the event. Isn’t it better if we walked with the event shirt?
The booths were pretty meh… But the calligraphy one was fun. The uncle was super nice and said my handwriting is good (which my friends disagreed). I wanted to write 守株待兔 but ended up writing 守猎 because stupid me cannot write 猪 in Chinese without reference. But thanks Uncle, you were very nice.
I also learnt that my handwriting it not bad, it is just because I write in the 草书 way my whole life. HAHA.
After that is nothing much, the knots tying booth was crap. Then there was the knowledge booth which was too easy. Got a free twisty snack though.
We then went to Waterway Point to eat. Wanted to eat Sushi Express but it wasn’t open yet, so we went to some kopitiam (which I think is koufu). Just got drinks and sat there to chat until via and her sis got to leave. Pearl and I went to Sushi Express then, and we sat there damn long. I missed their miso soup so damn much.
Oh, and also, Pearl eats cheesecake with chopstick! This is what Chinese school graduates do HAHAHA. Ok I’m not really judging because I eat chips with chopstick but heol!
We then go back to my place so I can give her her advanced birthday gift. Kekeke. I expected a better response (like Cheryl’s) but nopes.
Fun day, did a good thing. Totally would do it again, but next year it won’t be student price for me anymore.
