Welp, guess who is an huge dumbass.
So at this lab I’m at now, we have to autoclave our own stuff. Like yea, for years, I’ve been in labs that comes with autoclave facilities, so I never had to autoclave anything myself. Just throw everything into the wash box and someone will get it clean and sterilize before sending it back. Luxury right?
The only time I ever had to autoclave my own stuff is when I was doing my FYP in poly. And even then we don’t actually do autoclave work, we just use it to make food for our bacteria.
Ok so long story short, I have to do lab duties, and after learning how to use that ancient looking machine, I’m on my own. I mean, I was very confident I know what to do after the cycle ends. Wait for it to complete, then get the stuff out. Simple yea?
The autoclave process is supposed to take about 2 plus hours. I waited till then and I saw it at cooling down stage so I decided to check after a while. Then when I check again, it was on warming mode. Warming… I thought it just meant the machine is letting the stuff cool down before letting me take it out, because it was at 65°C. 30 mins later and it was at 60°C and I’m like ‘ok, this is going to take forever to come down to room temp’ so I decided to google for the settings meaning.
Turns out warming mode is to make sure agar don’t solidify if we don’t take it out soon enough.
Yup, and so I learnt.
